More on the Minister of Music Transition Process

You may have read the Q&A in the December 19 newsletter about the process underway for transitioning Jason Shelton into being our minister of music. Now here is a little more about the steps we will be taking in the next few weeks along that journey as we prepare for the Congregational Meeting on March 30, when we will vote on calling Jason to this new position as a minister in our church.

First we are setting up a this section of the church website to post information about the process as it becomes available. It will contain a draft of a job description for the new position, answers to some frequently asked questions, and a calendar of key dates in the process. We are also pleased to be able to post information from the packet Jason has prepared as the candidate for this new position. This packet is much like the ones done by UU ministers who are seeking positions as a parish ministers through the regular search process. Please take a few minutes to review the information there and to look and also to look at the printed copies of the packet at church on Sundays after services or during the week in the church office. You may be surprised at all that Jason is doing.

In late January there will be a series of meetings for the congregation to learn what is happening in this process, what is changing and what isn’t, and to give feedback. We encourage you to attend one of the meetings, but there is no need to attend more than one. The meetings will be:

  • Sunday, Jan. 20 at 10:15
  • Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7:00
  • Sunday, Jan. 27 at 10:15.

In addition to the sermon this past Sunday, Jason will be preaching again on the final Sunday of this process, March 30, as happens during a candidate week in the UUA ministerial search process. On that day, our special Congregational Meeting will follow the second service.

We want everyone to understand what is happening in this process and to have a chance to have input in the process. If you have any questions or thoughts, feel free to contact any of us, Richard Bird, Dariel Mayer, Ann Morse, Doug Pasto-Crosby, or Alan Leiserson. We can be reached by email at: MusicTransition@firstuunashville.org.
